LFT Wellington History
The Laura Fergusson Trust was established in 1967 to develop a positive support structure for people with disabilities who were residing in inappropriate institutional care.
The Wellington hostel was built in 1976. It fulfils a need for those who require some assistance with day to day living but wish to retain as much independence as possible - a basic human right that cannot be achieved in a hospital environment.

The Meaning Behind our Weaved Panel
Ka Whakatuwhenetia atu e raua to raua aroha ano nei e rite ana ki te hau-matangi,
ka pa ki te tokomaha.
They walked the extra mile to share their compassion and like a gentle breeze
it touched the lives of so many.

This Weaved Panel (pictured above) that hangs at the entrance to Laura Fergusson Wellington was designed and dedicated to the lives of Lady Laura Fergusson and Sir Bernard Fergusson on 21st December, 1981.
At Laura Fergusson Community Wellington we strive in our work, training and management to follow the Weaved Panel’s philosophy to walk the extra mile.
We aim to continually enhance the lives of the residents through continuity of care, training and quality improvement within their community.
